FLIR Releases Affordable Methane Gas Detection Camera
FLIR Releases First Affordable Uncooled Camera
FLIR Systems, Inc. announced on January 30th the release of its first, uncooled, low cost optical gas imaging camera for Methane gas detection.
The FLIR GF77a camera is an addition to FLIR’s lineup of optical gas imaging (OGI) cameras. The FLIR GF77a is the first methane gas detection camera, that utilizes a much more affordable, uncooled detector technology.
A special spectral filter makes the camera especially sensitive to the absorption band of Methane gas. Detected gas leaks appear as a dark haze or cloud in the thermal video stream.
The FLIR GF77a optical gas finder camera provides operators of gas processing plants now an effective way to monitor for potentially dangerous methane gas leaks. Methane gas is invisible to the human eye, but the FLIR GF77a camera changes that. Remote gas detection is a valuable method for early warning for detecting Methane gas leaks at natural gas power plants, renewable energy production facilities, renewable energy production facilities, industrial plants, and other locations along a natural gas supply chain.
FLIR’s new GF77a fixed mount methane gas detection camera is about half the cost of its cooled counterparts and offers an affordable new approach for methane gas leak detection. The camera is designed to also detect industrial gases such as sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide. The GF77a is equipped with FLIR’s patented High Sensitivity mode (HSM). Cameras with HSM mode enhance the contrast around moving gas plumes and therefore increasing the detectability of gas leaks.
In addition to its ability to detect methane gas leaks, the GF77a also comes radio-metrically calibrated. This allows the camera to simultaneously measure temperature of objects in the field of view of the camera, such as detecting tank fill levels and vessel temperatures.
The camera comes with an impressive set of industry standard protocols, which allow it to stream video directly to a video management system. For more advanced analytics, the GF77a provides a non-compressed video stream. Advanced analytics can be performed in parallel to the camera streaming video to a surveillance system. This allows for advanced analytical software to also measure temperature and perform an automated gas detection with alarming.
The FLIR GF77a enables operators to create a safer work environment while also assisting with reducing unwanted emissions.
