IoT-ready Thermal Smart Cameras for North American Market

MoviTHERM introduces IoT-ready Thermal Smart Cameras to North American Market

Irvine, CA, USA. Friday, December 7, 2018

MoviTHERM – Advanced Thermography Solutions announces today the introduction of a new breed of IoT-ready Thermal Smart Cameras to the North American market.

IRSX thermal smart cameras

IRSX Thermal Smart Camera – Compact Version

MoviTHERM, a leading US distributor for the new IRSX Thermal Smart Camera (from Automation Technology GmbH, Germany), is excited to offer a vastly more capable, non-contact alternative to the conventional RTD and thermocouple sensors of the past. The IRSX Series of thermal smart cameras offer a slew of industrial and web-technology based communication protocols, making them a perfect candidate for IoT (Internet of Things) applications. By eliminating the need for a PC and thermal imaging software, system complexity and associated costs are reduced. Camera setup and configuration is all done via standard web browser.

A Modern Solution

The need for sensing heat or measuring temperature in manufacturing processes is not new. A multitude of temperature sensing solutions are available and have been around for decades. Traditionally, wired temperature sensors, such as thermocouples or RTDs did this job. However, sensors of these types must be in contact with the medium or part that needs to be measured, which is not always desirable or even possible. Additionally, thermocouples and RTDs only provide a very localized temperature measurement. Things become even more challenging, when the product to be measured is in motion.

Thermal Cameras address these challenges and provide a non-contact method of temperature sensing from a safe distance. The image detector of these cameras is made up from thousands of temperature-sensing pixels, thus providing much more insight to temperature distribution and behavior.

“During recent years, the cost for these cameras have come down significantly, but thermal camera-based systems are still relatively complex to install and maintain. The IRSX Thermal Smart Cameras really is a game-changer, providing all the benefits of a thermal camera, with the flexibility of IoT integration.”, says Markus Tarin, President and CEO of MoviTHERM.

Multiple Options

IRSX Cameras are available in two different sensor resolutions, the IRSX 336 with 336 x 256 pixels and the IRSX-640 with 640 x 512 pixels. Both camera models come in a ruggedized aluminum enclosure with IP67 protection. A large selection of lens options, from super wide angle to telephoto, assures the perfect fit for just about any application. An open frame camera option for customer specific designs and OEMs round up the offering.

The cameras are competitively-priced, which makes them perfect candidates for a variety of industrial applications, such as machine condition monitoring, package seal inspection, continuous web monitoring, gas flare monitoring, hot glue verification, in process hot gas and infrared weld monitoring, non-destructive testing and many more.

Equipment Financing Helps Ease Capital Expense

Equipment Financing helps ease Capital Expense, shortens Return on Investment for Machine Vision Customers

Epsilon Technologies International, LLC doing business as MoviMED & MoviTHERM is partnering with SCL Equipment Finance to offer attractive equipment financing.

IRVINE, CA, USA, November 28, 2018 — The need to innovate and automate using machine vision technology is often hindered by lengthy capital expense budget approval processes. Consumer products get shipped un-inspected and processes go un-monitored for months on end while waiting for internal budget approvals. Continual process improvements are being put on hold, while awaiting completion of the lengthy financial approval process. Smaller companies may face additional challenges by not being able to afford a highly sought-after machine vision solution at all.

We are excited to help our customers realize their automation goals faster. Our new equipment finance programs help accelerate their return on investment, while preserving their working capital!
Markus Tarin, President & CEO, MoviMED / MoviTHERM

equipment financingFlexible equipment financing options can be a valuable tool in overcoming these challenges of today’s manufacturers. For example, a lease-to-own program will allow a company to acquire capital equipment in a short period of time and put it to work, while making affordable monthly payments. More often than not, the monthly return on investment of the machine vision equipment exceeds the cost of the lease payment, thus leading to an instant positive cash flow.

Additionally, customers can take advantage of the recently changed tax laws to fully write off the purchase price of the equipment in the first year, while stretching the payments over two, three or more years.

As interest rates are rising, more companies are electing to take advantage of equipment financing to stay competitive and keep innovating, while preserving their working capital.

MoviTHERM Grows NDT Equipment Sales Force

MoviTHERM Expands NDT Sales

Irvine, CA – October 18th, 2017

MoviTHERM Advanced Thermography Solutions is pleased to announce the expansion of its extended sales force in both the US, and now into Canada. Wednesday’s move comes in response to the increasing demand for Infrared Non-Destructive Testing Solutions across several industry sectors.

This expansion builds on a previous partnership formed between Composite Automation, LLC and MoviTHERM. Both companies have found a synergistic match based on their respective background and solution offerings.

“John Melilli and Composite Automation LLC have built a winning NDT sales team. Each team member has individually distinguished himself in the Composite Manufacturing Industry. As a unit, they offer unrivaled expertise in a wide range of applications. We are very excited to have this dynamic sales force representing the MoviTHERM thermal inspection and non-destructive testing products, as they expand across the US, and now in Canada too!”, said Markus Tarin, President & CEO of MoviTHERM

MoviTHERM offers a range of NDT inspection solutions for structural components manufactured using carbon fiber and other composite materials. As the number and diversity of these components grows, the need for more sophisticated inspection technology is also growing. Traditional Ultrasound NDT technology is not well-suited to complex, curved geometries that are becoming more prevalent in composite parts manufacturing. Infrared Non-Destructive Test Systems (“IR-NDT”) offers several advantages over ultrasound equipment. IR-NDT based system can quickly inspect large, curved geometries and offers a cost-effective, efficient alternative to traditional ultrasonic solutions.

MTV VMA Viewers stunned by live Thermal Video Broadcast

First Ever Thermal Broadcast

Alternative Rock Band 30 Seconds to Mars wowed the audience at the 34th Annual MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday at The Forum in Inglewood, CA. With MTV’s “Brace for History” motto, MoviTHERM helped shape that message by being part of the first ever thermal video broadcast.

Lead singer Jared Leto started teasing viewers about their upcoming live performance in the MTV VMA award show in this interview with The Insider Magazine. Fans were kept in suspense, as he only vaguely hinted on what was to come.

Walk on Water by 30 Seconds to Mars, live at the MTV VMA 2017

The above are still shots from the live thermal video below. From left to right: Jay Leto, Tomo – Travis Scott – Jared Leto, Choir & Dancers.

A few weeks prior to the MTV VMAs, MoviTHERM was approached by the band’s production company interested in using several FLIR HD Thermal Cameras. MoviTHERM assembled a team of thermal imaging engineers and started working with the creative production team, choreographers, dancers, choir and band to create some mesmerizing thermal video that was sure to capture the audience’s attention.

“This was history in the making, commented Vatche Arabian, Senior Director of Strategic Communications at FLIR. This was the first time ever that four FLIR HD Thermal Cameras had been used in a live, world-wide TV broadcast!”

“We utilized two FLIR A8300sc and two FLIR SC8300 HD thermal cameras with HD-SDI outputs, suitable for broadcasting in 720p” , added Markus Tarin, President & CEO at MoviTHERM. When it became apparent that temperature span adjustments had to be made on-the-fly during live broadcast, we decided to develop special thermal imaging and camera control software to accommodate that task. The software enabled us to optimize the thermal contrast of the performers in real-time during the live performance and respond rapidly to cues of the video director. The MoviTHERM software was a critically important asset to making this a glaring success for Thirty Seconds to Mars, the MTV VMA show, FLIR as well as MoviTHERM.

After the MTV VMA performance aired, social media was lighting up with headlines like these:

Billboard Magazine
Thirty Seconds to Mars Gives ‘Walk on Water’ Its Live Debut With Mind-Bending Performance at 2017 VMAs”

PopCrush
“30 Seconds To Mars Go Full-Throttle Thermal Tech With Glowing 2017 VMAs Performance”

MoviTHERM will be expanding on the enclosure offerings with the addition of purge & pressurization controllers for cost-effective hazardous location applications for Class 1/Div 1, Class 1/Div 2, Class 2/Div 1 and Class 2/Div 2 rated locations.

“We are excited about this partnership. Almost all industrial thermal monitoring applications require some form of protection for cameras. Finding the right camera enclosure for any particular camera model and environment can be a daunting and time consuming task. With our continued effort to offer value added products and services, we now have a complete line of camera enclosure solutions for just about any situation. Whether our customers are just looking to add an enclosure to their application, or acquiring a turnkey thermal imaging system from MoviTHERM, they can continue to rely on us for the right solution.”, says Markus Tarin, President & CEO.

In addition to offering a complete lineup of high-quality camera enclosures, MoviTHERM also provides application consulting services to assist customers with selecting the right enclosure for their particular application.

“We also offer integration services to assist customers with mounting their cameras into these enclosures. There are a lot of things to consider, such as controlling a heater for the viewing glass, how to power the camera inside the enclosure, how to manage the camera’s connectivity to the outside, maybe adding a copper-to-fiber media converter for long cable runs or an internal temperature and moisture sensor. We even offer custom modification to the enclosure, if needed. That is where MoviTHERM is different. We look at how we can provide the most value to our customers with what we do and know best, so our customers can focus on their core business.”, adds Markus Tarin.
