Coronavirus Impacts Lead Time, Causes Delays

Coronavirus Causes Delays in Business

The coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China is now starting to impact business continuity here in the US.

With a lot of electronic, optical and mechanical manufacturing located in China, we are now starting to feel the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak in our business. Over the past couple of weeks, we have received notice from several of our vendors, that lead times are being impacted. This is true for companies located in the US as well as Europe, as some components are being manufactured in China.

Several Chinese manufacturing sites have simply closed down for the time being in light of the virus outbreak. Based on the current trends, we expect this impact to worsen over the coming weeks. The situation is very fluid and we are keeping a close eye on how things are developing.

We have seen lead times stretching an additional 2-4 weeks for items that are not in stock. We advise our customers to adjust their project planning to account for these additional delays and place their orders sooner.

Thermal camera lead time is additionally affected due to companies abroad installing system to screen for people with elevated body temperatures.

Please check back with us, even for orders that have been placed already. We will do our best to provide you with updates as soon as these become available.

We apologize for any inconvenience and will work closely with our vendors to make the best of this situation.

Thank You for your understanding!

Markus Tarin, President & CEO, MoviTHERM

FLIR Releases Affordable Methane Gas Detection Camera

FLIR Releases First Affordable Uncooled Camera

FLIR Systems, Inc. announced on January 30th the release of its first, uncooled, low cost optical gas imaging camera for Methane gas detection.

The FLIR GF77a camera is an addition to FLIR’s lineup of optical gas imaging (OGI) cameras. The FLIR GF77a is the first methane gas detection camera, that utilizes a much more affordable, uncooled detector technology.

A special spectral filter makes the camera especially sensitive to the absorption band of Methane gas. Detected gas leaks appear as a dark haze or cloud in the thermal video stream.

FLIR GF77a Methane Gas Detection Camera

The FLIR GF77a optical gas finder camera provides operators of gas processing plants now an effective way to monitor for potentially dangerous methane gas leaks. Methane gas is invisible to the human eye, but the FLIR GF77a camera changes that. Remote gas detection is a valuable method for early warning for detecting Methane gas leaks at natural gas power plants, renewable energy production facilities, renewable energy production facilities, industrial plants, and other locations along a natural gas supply chain.

FLIR’s new GF77a fixed mount methane gas detection camera is about half the cost of its cooled counterparts and offers an affordable new approach for methane gas leak detection. The camera is designed to also detect industrial gases such as sulfur dioxide and nitrous oxide. The GF77a is equipped with FLIR’s patented High Sensitivity mode (HSM). Cameras with HSM mode enhance the contrast around moving gas plumes and therefore increasing the detectability of gas leaks.

In addition to its ability to detect methane gas leaks, the GF77a also comes radio-metrically calibrated. This allows the camera to simultaneously measure temperature of objects in the field of view of the camera, such as detecting tank fill levels and vessel temperatures.

The camera comes with an impressive set of industry standard protocols, which allow it to stream video directly to a video management system. For more advanced analytics, the GF77a provides a non-compressed video stream. Advanced analytics can be performed in parallel to the camera streaming video to a surveillance system. This allows for advanced analytical software to also measure temperature and perform an automated gas detection with alarming.

The FLIR GF77a enables operators to create a safer work environment while also assisting with reducing unwanted emissions.

Webinar: Automated Thermal Pouch Seal Inspection

MoviTHERM and FLIR are hosting a free webinar, “Automated Thermal Pouch Seal Inspection”

Learn how to use automated thermal pouch seal inspection to verify the seal integrity of pouch seals in packaging applications. Explore how non-contact infrared imaging can detect sealing issues, such as partial seals, leaks, missing seals and over welds. Get answers to your application related questions!

Date: Tuesday, January 14, 2020

Hosted by: FLIR / MoviTHERM

Time: 11:00 a.m. EST/ 8:00 a.m. PST

Thermal Pouch Seal Inspection

Whether it’s from RF welding, friction, ultrasound, or a heat-transfer sealer, the ability to reach consistent high temperatures is critical to the package sealing process. Traditional sampling inspections can only address a small percentage of package seals—leaving a lot of room for error. Human inspection methods may be flawed, too, as they depend on workers maintaining focus through their entire shift. The best alternative is condition monitoring with an automated thermal imager. These cameras use infrared to detect and monitor temperatures, offering a 100% non-destructive real-time inspection method that can help improve quality control without inventory loss.

This webinar introduces the benefits and challenges of thermal seal inspection.

You’ll learn:

  • How thermal imaging improves the package seal inspection process
  • How to detect issues in the sealing process
  • The advantages and challenges of thermal seal inspection processes

Thermal Imaging provides several advantages over traditional machine condition monitoring approaches. Typical failure modes are mechanical and electrical systems that overheat for various reasons. Ball bearings are widely used in machinery and are one of the most common mechanical failure points on a machine. Bearings are exposed to a lot of mechanical stress and wear and tear. Despite being lubricated, the lubricant (oil or grease) does get contaminated over time with metal rub off from the balls rubbing against the cage of the ball bearing. Additional contaminants (dust, chemicals etc.) may enter the ball bearing and further contaminate the lubricant. Over time this leads to a degradation of the bearing and mechanical friction increases, which in turn causes the bearing to run much warmer. Electrical equipment isn’t any less likely to fail than mechanical equipment.

A thermal camera can monitor several ball bearings in one image and together with a monitoring system, provide an early warning. This helps to avoid costly and unscheduled shutdown. A machine condition monitoring system is a valuable asset for a preventative maintenance program.

The Machine Condition Monitoring Webinar will introduce the viewer on how to use the latest thermal imaging camera technology for condition monitoring. It introduces cost effective and scalable solutions for using thermal imaging cameras using MoviTHERM’s MIO Intelligent I/O Module. The MIO I/O module simplifies thermal imaging systems and eliminates the need for traditional PC-based architectures.

In this webinar you will learn:

  • How to utilize thermal cameras for condition monitoring applications
  • How to simplify machine condition monitoring systems using the MIO I/O module
  • How to save money by avoiding costly and unplanned equipment breakdown
