Thermal Camera Rental

At MoviTHERM we recognize that purchasing a thermal camera is not always the best option. Or at least not the first option. Everybody’s situation and needs are different. It is often not clear, if a thermal camera will work for a particular application. Maybe there is just a temporary need for analyzing a device or process and a purchase cannot be justified in that case. For the aforementioned scenarios as well as many others, we offer cameras for rent instead as a cost effective and low risk alternative.

However, MoviTHERM is going a step further. We offer value added services with our thermal camera rental offers. We know that using a thermal camera can be daunting task. When you rent from MoviTHERM you can always be assured that you have our full support to make sure that you are getting the most out of your rental. We invite you to discuss your application and challenges with us and our expert thermographic engineers and staff will help you select the right equipment for your mission.

We offer remote support and training and we can even send an expert to your location to assist with your application. You can share your data with us and we will help you with your application. We have worked on hundreds of thermal imaging applications since 1999 and quickly understand your challenges.

We look forward to working with you!

Thermal Camera Rental FAQ

We offer different types of rentals for different scenarios.

Below are the typical use cases:

Camera Only Rental
This option is suitable for system integrators and engineers that would like to use the camera for their own integration and software development. This option also applies to our hand held camera users, since these type of cameras are “self contained” and don’t require additional tools, software or equipment to run.

Camera and Software Rental
This option is for users that do not have the intent or the capability to develop software just to perform some thermographic measurements. For this scenario, we include a mini PC with thermographic software installed and configured on it – ready to go. This makes for a much better “out of the box” experience, then just including software alone.
Most companies have strict IT policies that often prevent these cameras to work on just any PC. A lot of time and effort is then often wasted troubleshooting these issues, cutting into valuable rental time. What we do ask our customers to provide are a USB Mouse, USB Keyboard and Monitor. We will provide a mini PC without peripherals to keep the shipping costs low.

Camera, Software and Consultant
Sometimes, our customers are best served with an expert thermographer onsite. Performing thermographic measurements is a complex task, especially if you have never used a thermal camera before. For this reason, we offer to ship a thermographic expert with the camera. This doesn’t have to be for the entire rental period. The export can provide startup assistance and some training, or perform the entire task and help with analyzing the collected data.

The rental costs vary depending on the camera model. Each rental has a three day minimum rental fee. After that, the daily rental fee is being applied. Our standard rental fee is typically calculated based on a percentage of the list price of the camera, including all add-ons and accessories.
We also offer discounts for long term rentals. We will provide a quote for your particular rental needs upon request.

Please contact one of our sales associates with any of your questions.

Cameras that are in stock at the time of the desired rental period are available immediately. However, our rental equipment is always in high demand. There may be a lead time associated with your particular rental. If you have a time critical situation, please call use as early as possible to discuss. Please understand that we cannot “reserve” camera rentals without a firm order. We rent our equipment on a first come, first serve basis to be fair to everybody.

The easiest camera to use is the hand held FLIR E8. With a single push of a button, you can snap thermal images and perform measurements. However, this camera may not always be the best tool for the job.

Consult one of our solution sales engineers to figure out the best camera for your situation. We also recommend using the “Camera and Software” option. With that option, we include our IR-CAT software installed and configured on a mini PC. IR-CAT is very easy to use and offers some powerful data collection and analysis functions.

If you are not sure, you can always request on of our thermography experts to provide you with a remote training session to get you started. Alternatively, we can send our experts to your location to assist you with your application. Using our IR-CAT software has an additional benefit. You will be able to share your measurement results with us for collaboration.

Selecting the right camera for the job is very important. There are many things to consider. Some of these are:

  • What is the object temperature range that you need to measure?
  • What is the distance from camera to object?
  • What is the object size that need to be imaged?
  • What is the smallest area or feature size that you need to measure temperature of accurately?
  • Is the object stationary or fast moving during measurement?
  • What sort of accuracy do you need from the camera?
  • What type of data do you want to save and analyze?

The above are the most common things to consider when selecting the right camera. The answers to these questions will help us determine the required camera resolution, the temperature range that the camera can measure, the required lens or optic and the type of detector in the camera etc. We can do all the hard work for you in helping select the right camera for the job.

Whether you need a consultant or not depends on your comfort level with using a thermal camera. Performing accurate thermographic measurements is not as simple as pointing a thermal camera at an object and snapping an image. There are a lot of things that can cause measurement errors. The untrained person will most likely not realize the mistake and might draw the wrong conclusion based on the results collected.

Some of the things that can introduce measurement errors are:

  • Emissivity mismatch of the object and the camera
  • Spatial resolution mismatch of the camera
  • Motion blur
  • Reflections in the scene
  • Transmission through certain materials

Our thermography experts are trained to recognize these pitfalls and handle these accordingly. Since 1999 we have worked on hundreds of different applications and have extensive experience. Hiring an expert provides you with access to years of knowledge to help you solve your toughest measurement challenges.

Yes! We do offer rental credits, if you decide to purchase a camera. We offer a rental credit of up to one week for the purchase of a camera of equal or greater value. If you decide to purchase a camera with a lesser value than the rental, we apply the equivalent rental credit of that particular model instead. The rental credit is valid for up to 30 days after completion of the rental period. A firm order via written purchase order or major credit card is required to secure the rental credit within the thirty days.

No. These cameras are export controlled by the US Government. We only offer thermal camera rental equipment for customers located within the US.

Our customers are responsible for all shipping charges round trip. All return shipments must be via FedEx or UPS Standard Overnight Shipping to avoid additional rental charges for the days the equipment is in transit.

The customer who signs the thermal camera rental agreement is liable for all damages or loss to the equipment for the duration of the rental. We expect the equipment to be returned to us in the same condition as when we shipped the item. If for whatever reason the equipment is not working when you receive it, please contact us immediately to file a claim. We test all cameras prior to shipping. In case of accidental damage, please also contact us immediately to report the issue to us. We will assess the damage and determine, whether the equipment can be repaired or needs to be replaced. You will be responsible for paying either the full repair cost or the full replacement value within 30 days.

That happens! Please call us as soon as the need arises for an extension. The camera that you have may have already been reserved for another customer. We will do our best to accommodate your and our other customer’s needs. The sooner you let us know, the easier it will be for all parties involved.

That is a possibility. Please give us a call to discuss as soon as possible. We will need to check, if that camera has been reserved for another customer. We will have to replace the rental asset with a new camera, which has several weeks of lead time. In order to avoid too much of a delay, we need to figure out the best option for everybody involved.
